Halloween Treats: Monster S’mores and Kreepy Krispies
Made these super easy and fun Halloween treats for my nieces! They loved the Monster S’mores and the Kreepy Krispies that we had after dinner on our way to the Rutland Halloween Parade! “More S’mores” was chanted a few times in the backseat on our ride.
The Monster S’mores:
You will need: one box of graham crackers, container of marshmallow fluff, 12-18 popsicle sticks, 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet), and 1/4 cup white chocolate chips or other decorations.
To make: break graham crackers in half and spread each side with a little marshmallow fluff. Place the popsicle stick on one of the crackers and then cover with the other cracker. Set aside. Once all the crackers are put together, melt the chocolate chips in the microwave in a microwave safe bowl – making sure to stir every 20 seconds or so as you don’t want to overcook the chocolate.
Once the chocolate is melted, begin coating the s’more popsicles with chocolate making sure to cover it completely (especially by the stick handle) so the fluff and crackers don’t dry out. Set on greased aluminum foil to harden.
Decorate with melted white chocolate or get super creative with edible decorations like eyes and sprinkles (I did use un-melted chips for the eyes to give them some dimension but what I used was what I had in the house as I didn’t have time to go out and get other decorations!)
You will need: 6 cups plain rice krispie cereal, 10oz package of large marshmallows, 3 tablespoons of butter, green food dye, 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips.
To make: Using the instructions on the back of the rice krispie box of cereal, or my instructions here, melt the butter and whole bag of marshmallows in a microwave safe bowl, remembering to stir often.
Once the marshmallows are completely melted, stir in 4-6 drops of green food dye and mix well.
Add in the rice krispie cereal and stir until well coated with the marshmallow. Press the green treats into a lightly greased 9×13 inch baking dish to set/harden, about 20 minutes.
Once hard, cut into squares. Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl. Dip the top of the treat into the chocolate and then using a spoon, scrape off any excess. This creates the “hair” of the kreepy monster.
Using a toothpick or the spoon tip, add eyes, and maybe some stitches and a mouth. Let dry on a spray-greased sheet of aluminum foil.
