Chocolate Cream Cheese Layer Pie
This is one of those ultimate desserts that you break out when you have those intense chocolate cravings! The thick chocolate pudding on top of the decadent cream cheese layer and the chocolate crunch of the crust all come together for a mouth watering experience. This pie is super easy to put together and only requires a few ingredients. I love making it in a clear glass baking pie dish so the layers can be seen. Though it is also a show-stopper when you bake it in a non-see-through pie dish as everyone assumes it is just another chocolate cream pie. Then you slice into it and you get the “wow” factor.
While the pudding does need time to set, and it is best served cold, this is still an easy dessert to whip up an hour or two before a party. I’ve also made this two days in advance and it also worked out perfectly. The cream cheese layer is so thick that it didn’t make the crust soggy and the extra chilling time and the fact that I could make it that far ahead was helpful. I’ve done some fancy whipped cream toppers and also used shaved chocolate to jazz this recipe up, but for my own family desserts, they just want to eat it, so no jazzing up necessary.
Crust: (optional – you can just use a pre-made graham cracker crust but we LOVE the extra chocolate)
9 inch pie baking dish
3/4 package of oreo’s (you can use the whole package for a thicker crust)
4 tablespoons butter melted
Cream Cheese Layer:
1 package 1/3 less fat cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon of milk or half & half
1 cup cold/frozen whipped topping
1 package (3.9 ounce) instant chocolate pudding mix
Milk needed for pudding mix
The first step is to make the oreo crust. In a blender or food processor, grind together the oreo’s and melted butter until it holds together when you press it between your fingertips. Press into the bottom of your pie dish. Set aside.
Second, in your mixer, beat together the softened cream cheese, sugar and milk until smooth. Gently fold in the whipped topping. Spread evenly on top of your oreo crust.
The last step is to then make your chocolate pudding according to the package directions. Let it soft set for a few minutes and then pour over top of the cream cheese layer. Smooth out evenly. Chill your pie until you are ready to serve. Just before serving you can garnish with additional frozen whipped topping and chocolate shavings.
