Heart Shaped Mini Pies

These are the most adorable heart shaped pies! They are so easy to make and will put a smile on everyone’s face! I did these just in time for Valentine’s Day this year but I have used this method with other shapes and they homemade mini heart piesall work so nicely. For a summer-themed house party a few years ago I made these in the shape of a flower. All you need is pie dough, jam, and cookie cutters in the shape you want. Could it get any easier? Or any cuter?  Nope!

I usually make these just as they are but I have seen other people use popsicle sticks or dowels so that these little hand pies become pies-on-a-stick and they look darn cute too. Either way, these are a real neat dessert to serve or bring at a gathering. Everyone will be wowing your accomplishments and all it took was a little time and some sugar. These smell so good when they come out of the oven that most of them disappear pretty fast. They also keep quite well in a sealed container for a few days if you need to make them ahead of time.

For the pies, use store bought roll out pre-made pie crust. Pillsbury works great but so does my cheaper store brand. Each box has two crusts and that will make about 20-30 pies depending upon the size of your cookie cutter.

You will need:

1 package pre-made pie crust (should have two in package)

jar of your favorite jam (I used raspberry)

1/4 cup of sugar

1 egg white

1 tablespoon water

Lay out the pie crust and cut your shapes making sure to have an even amount as you will need two cutouts for each pie.

Next, spread a little bit of your favorite jam in the middle of one of your cutouts. Take a matching shape and place on top of the cutout with the jam. Using a fork, pinch the edges together to secure the jam inside.

Once you have a tray of these little pies all done, mix the egg white and water in a small bowl and brush the tops with the egg wash and then sprinkle with white sugar.

Bake in the oven at 350°F for 20-25 minutes or until the edges and tops are lightly brown.
