Toothpaste as Silver Polish

I was getting out my Christmas silver bells to hang around the house and realized I had run out of silver polish. use toothpaste as silver polishThere was no way I was going to run to the store for just silver polish – actually I think I would have had to travel farther than I thought to find a place that sells silver polish around here! Anyway, I happen to mention this to my aunt while on the phone with her discussing Christmas holiday travel details.

“Toothpaste” she said. What? “If you have white toothpaste around the house use that to polish your silver.” Well, damn if she wasn’t right! I did happen to have some white toothpaste around and it worked!

So, if you have some silver that needs polishing, put a dab of white toothpaste on a paper towel or other soft cloth and gently rub your silver.

Once covered with the toothpaste polish, rinse under warm water to remove the toothpaste. Dry with a cloth and make sure to dry completely otherwise water spots will appear.

If you look at these two silver bells, you can see the difference in the unpolished bell on the right and the bell I polished with toothpaste in the left!

There you have it! A quick and handy home cleaning trick!
