4th of July Fruit and Whipped Cream Dessert in a Jar
Who doesn’t love fresh fruit on a hot summer day with dollops of whipped cream! This dessert is fabulous with any combination of fruit, but as today is the 4th of July, I had some fun layering blue blueberries, red strawberries, and homemade whipped cream for a red, white, and blue theme!
With all the parades, festivities, fireworks, and family and friends gathering for the 4th of July, preparing food during the day can be a lot of work.
This is a super simple, fun, delicious dessert that looks beautiful on the picnic table and is a little more on the healthier side.
I like to prepare everything a little ahead of time and assemble these individual desserts right before we eat them, but you could make them a few hours before you plan on eating them and just keep them in the fridge. You could also make things more fun by putting out all of the ingredients and letting people fill their own dessert jars! Kids and adults alike with love these either prepared or doing up their jars themselves.
For the whipped cream:
2 cups of whipping cream
2 teaspoons of sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
In a cold bowl (preferably metal but any bowl will work) stir together the cream, vanilla and sugar and then whip together with a mixer on high speed. Mix until soft peaks form. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 5 hours.
Now for the fun part! For a country theme I used ball jars to serve this dessert in but you could easily use anything with a wide opening. This recipe makes about 4 ball jars.
Wash your jars well and layer the berries and whipped cream making sure to end with whipped cream – filling a little over the top – and then garnish with a whole strawberry.
Have a happy and safe 4th of July!
