Making Memorial Day Memories

We had a wonderful Memorial Day! Although there were a lot of parades, parties and local events, we were content to strawberry daiquiristick close to home and family. We went for a boat ride on Lake Saint Catherine and then later in the evening had family sitting around the chiminea drinking strawberry daiquiri’s.

For many of us, it is hard not to think of Memorial Day as a food holiday and to remember that is more about celebrating others and what they have done for our country. On the other hand, so many people know friends or have family members who serve in the military today that I hope people are teaching the next generation what this day is all about.

My family has a lot of military background but the person I think of the most on Memorial Day is my Pop Pop who was a Marine during WWII. He passed away a few years ago, but he is still on our minds.

We started the day rather patriotically with flag waffles for breakfast! I called a few relatives to say hello and then we headed outdoors for a boat ride on the lake.

Later that night we had a great time listening and telling stories about our past relatives and their time in the military while we sat around the fire and roasted marshmallows. Family, friends, and memories is what I like best about this day!

It got cold once the sun went down so we traded our sandals for slippers!
