Cookbook Reading Club – The Epicurious Cookbook
What a great concept – a cookbook reading club! You buy the book, read through all the drool factor recipes, pick something to make, bring it, talk about it, and eat! Love it!
Last night I attended the Northshire Bookstore’s cookbook reading club and had such a great time! I have been meaning to go to this reading club for several months now but always had something else scheduled for the same night. I was finally able to attend with two of my friends and I am so glad we did. The event was held at the Inn at Manchester which was absolutely gorgeous! The staff was so welcoming and the bar and eating area felt luxurious yet relaxing at the same time. I would highly recommend this inn to anyone who wants to stay in the Manchester, Vermont area!
The book that was on the menu for the evening was The Epicurious Cookbook. It is a collection of recipes from readers and the editors of the Epicurious website. The book is thick with some of their best and most favorite culinary creations with everything from the simple to the sublime. The neat thing about this book is that it is broken down not into the usual food categories like poultry and fish but into seasons. You will find fitting recipes in each of the four categories: spring, summer, fall, and winter.
As the reading club took place during the spring season, I wanted to make sure to use one of the appropriate seasonal recipes. I decided to do the Pound Cake with Lavender and Blueberry Syrup. Other dishes that were made for the event included the Sweet Potato Salad with Spicy Peanut Dressing, Crab Hush Puppies, Gluten-Free Lemon Layer Cake, a delicious Eggplant Lasagna with Parsley Pesto, and an absolutely divine Gianduja Mousse!
I love to cook and it was even more fun as those of us at the gathering were able to dive deeper into the recipes together and discuss what recipes worked, what recipes we tweaked, and the funny substitutions that were made. The evening was filled with laughter, great people, and a plethora of wonderful food. I can not wait until next month where we will be gathering together over a Vermont cookbook!
