A Balmy 9°F

It is a balmy 9°F here in Vermont today but the sun is shining and the wind has died down! Me and one of our friendly chickens

The chickens were so glad to see the sun they were all out and pecking at what is left of the snow and scratching through to the brown ground.

We went out to enjoy the sunshine with them and collect the eggs. They greatly enjoyed the stale bread and left over pasta salad we sprinkled on the ground for them.

Happy Chickens

We collected 14 eggs and were also rewarded with a few hugs! Two of our chickens are super friendly and practically beg at our feet to be picked up.

Collecting eggs

After the chickens were fed and the eggs collected, we took a short walk following some rabbit tracks that led from the chicken house all around the farm. Although the tracks were fresh, we didn’t spot the rabbit anywhere. What a beautiful day!

We’re at a high of 21 and the sun is shining bright. I checked the chicken’s water at noon and hooray for the first time in days it wasn’t frozen. You have a good day too neighbor!

It was a great day – hope yours was too! The weather channel is telling us highs of 40 for next week, so hopefully trudging out to the barn with buckets of water will come to an end.

9 degrees? Brave chickens to come outside. I would have stayed in, I think….and asked you for an extra blanket or two. :).
