Autumn Leaves and a Bald Eagle

“Delicious autumn!  My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.” Vermont fall ~George Eliot

Driving up near Lake Champlain over the weekend we spotted a beautiful sight. A bald eagle was soaring above a field. We were able to pull over and watch the bird fly for a good twenty minutes before it disappeared into the wind.

The bald eagle we saw

We were able to get a photo of the eagle from a distance before it few away and disappeared into the wind.

While we may live in Vermont, that doesn’t mean we don’t enjoy driving around and looking at the fall foliage. To be able to not only bask in the glory of bright yellow, golden orange, and rich red leaves, but to experience a wild bald eagle soar above our heads is an amazing feeling. Not too long ago they were a rare sight in the Northeast. Now with efforts to increase their population, they have reestablished themselves along the shores of Lake Champlain. Sightings have also happened further south in Vermont along the shores of Lake Saint Catherine where recently a nesting pair was spotted.

Fall will have an even more special meaning with the potential of spotting this majestic bird in our area again. Fall in Vermont
